Jewish wedding

The rite of Jewish wedding has an ancient origin and it is a very fascinating ceremony with moments of great emotional impact and symbolic value.

The Jewish ceremony can be celebrated in the Synagogue or in a private place, even outdoors in a garden, but it can not take place during Shabbat (which starts at sunset on Friday and ends one hour after Saturday's sunset) or during holiday days.

The Jewish marriage ceremony is divided into two main phases: Kiddushin and Nessu'in. The first one is based on the momente a ring is given as a gift by the groom to the bride in the presence of two witnesses, who must necessarily be men. The second one is focused on the blessing of wine. The bride during the Jewish wedding is veiled and it is the groom himself who places the Bedeken (the veil) on the head of the future wife shortly before the ceremony. Both spouses are standing under the Chuppàh, a canopy that symbolizes the family that the two will build together. During the ceremony the rabbi reads in Aramaic the Ketubbàh, a real marriage contract that governs the obligations of the husband against his wife. At the end of this reading seven blessings are recited and the spouses repeatedly drink wine from the same glass, which is then broken with a foot by the groom in memory of the destruction of the Temple of Jerusalem.
